Betty Jean McDonald, 84, of Cadiz

Memorial services for 84-year-old Betty Jean McDonald of Cadiz will be held at a later date at Spring Hill Cemetery in Paris, Texas.

King’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jean McDonald passed away Sunday evening, May 24, 2026, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home.

Born August 11, 1941, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of the late English Lamar Nickerson and Ila Inez “Big Mama” Nickerson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles McDonald; her son, Anthony Ryan “Tony” McDonald; four brothers, Jerry, Bill, Lamar, and Reuben Nickerson; and two sisters, Debbie Carlos and Juanita Dial.

Betty Jean was a member of the Church of Christ. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse and was also a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, fishing, and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, James McDonald and wife Carrie of Cadiz and Charles Robert McDonald Holt and wife Roxane of Orange, Texas; one daughter, Shelia Amason Brannon of Nacogdoches, Texas; one brother, Cecil Nickerson of Cold Springs, Texas; one sister, Ann Fuller of New Waverly, Texas; and grandchildren Megan McDonald of Cadiz, Evan McDonald of Cadiz, Cali McDonald of Sparta, Missouri, Robert “Button” McDonald of Austin, Texas, Haley Holt of Orange, Texas, Carl Sepulvado of Nacogdoches, Texas, Lisa Raulerson of Virginia, and Ashley Coats of Nacogdoches, Texas.
