After careful thought and consideration, long-running Trigg County magistrate Jeff Broadbent — representing Cerulean and District 4 — has decided not to run for re-election in 2026.

The four-term former Democrat, now Independent, confirmed the decision Tuesday afternoon, citing four terms “was long enough,” and that he’s looking forward to helping with a smooth magisterial transition this fall and into January.

Broadbent thanked his two judge-executives, Hollis Alexander and Stan Humphries, the other magistrates and the Trigg County Road Department — particularly Brandon Calhoun and Brandon Fowler — for helping him be a part of local decisions and business for the community.

He said he “loves Trigg County,” and that he and his wife will continue to be an integral part of Cerulean’s future.

Broadbent’s decision confirms that, for the first time in nearly two decades, Cerulean will have new leadership on Trigg County’s Fiscal Court this November.

Trey Lancaster won a tight Republican primary last week, edging out Greg Goodwin and John “Rayme” Hopson for the nomination, while write-in candidate Andrea Jo King filed far before the August 24 deadline.

Those registered “Independent” do have until Tuesday, June 2, to file for seats, and positions will be drawn at 2 PM Thursday, June 4, in the Trigg County Clerk’s Office.
