Families of at least 54 servicemembers who died in the line of duty may find a bit more closure, thanks to a project underway by a longtime Trigg County educator.

LaNell Bell shared powerful stories from her ‘Fallen Soldiers Project’ on Monday morning during the Memorial Day service at the Cadiz Farmers Market Pavilion. The event was hosted by the James Thomas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Bell, a 49-year employee of Trigg County Public Schools and a local DAR member, described the project as a compilation of stories honoring community members who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Through endless hours of online research and interviews with family members, Bell brought these stories to life – many written as firsthand accounts of their time in the service.

Among those featured in the upcoming project is Eldon Reed Ahart, whose story was shared with the help of his half-brother, Jimmy Carr.

Private First Class Ahart enlisted in Evansville, Indiana, on September 16, 1943. Sadly, after he was killed, it would take roughly four months for his mother, Myrtle, to receive the news.

Carr said that the project was a wonderful idea.

Bell said anyone interested in purchasing a copy of the ‘Fallen Soldiers Project’ can contact her at (270) 350-0231. A release date has not been established.
