Snowfall across western Kentucky has kept Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 crews busy treating and plowing roads throughout the day.
An early morning snow was followed by heavier snow bands, prompting crews in all 12 District 1 counties to focus on priority routes such as interstates, parkways and major highways vital to public safety and emergency response.
Plow operators made repeated passes during heavier snowfall to keep roads passable, while lower-priority routes may not be addressed until later in the event. Crews were expected to continue working in shifts through the night and into Sunday.
The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Sunday night, despite a lull being observed Saturday afternoon. Snow resumed and mixed with sleet near the Tennessee border.
Officials urge motorists to avoid non-essential travel, use caution due to extreme cold and refreezing conditions, and stay clear of snowplows and highway equipment.
