Richard Barnett, 88, of Crofton, KY died at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Crofton Christian Church with Barney Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Lanier Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Crofton Christian Church and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at the church. Dogwood Funerals & Cremations of Crofton is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Crofton, KY he was born February 22, 1938, the son of the late Carlos Ampliss Barnett and Ruby Terry Barnett. He was a retired dragline operator having worked for both Peabody Coal Company and Charolais Coal. He was a member and deacon at the Crofton Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: James Barnett, Frank Barnett, George Barnett, Howard Barnett, and Dee Barnett; and his sisters: Louise Keys, Dixie Barnett, and Faye Barnett. His older sister, Kathleen Barnett East, died the morning after Richard.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Mary Barnett; his daughter: Sherry Diane (Bruce) Hewell of Henderson, KY; his son: Cameron Shawn Barnett of Hopkinsville, KY; his sisters: Ann Barnett and Connie Barnett both of Hopkinsville, KY; and his sister-in-law: Jean Barnett of Crofton, KY.
