Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Paducah are saying that the weekend forecast could bring some more much-needed showers and storms.

Meteorologist Andy Lesage said that after dry conditions through Thursday, rain chances ramp up Friday, with 1-2″ of rain expected through the weekend.

He added that while the region saw some rain over the past weekend, he’s not sure how much that will affect the drought monitor report. Most of the area is under the D-2 category, or severe drought.

He added that typically the area sees about 4″ of rain in the month of April, with most Kentucky Mesonet sites recording just under 2″ for the month. The Christian County site has recorded around 2.2″ of rain in April.

Looking at the outlook for the next 8-14 days, Lesage said that below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation look possible.
