Hunt Farms and Folz Farms in south Christian County took home top honors Thursday night at the Kentucky Commodity Conference in Bowling Green.
Hunt Farms won the Kentucky Wheat Yield contest and earned the Don Halcomb traveling trophy with their Pioneer entry that produced an average of 134.62 bushels per acre. Farm Manager Brandon Hunt was on hand to receive the awards.
Folz Farms in Herndon won the Quality Champion wheat award with their AgriMaXX entry that produced 120.57 bushels per acre. University of Kentucky Grain Crops Specialist Dr. Chad Lee thanked Siemer Milling for their assistance with the contest.
Tom and Thomas Folz were on hand to receive the award. Christian County Agriculture Extension Agent Matt Futtrell was recognized for his assistance with submitting the entries for both farms.
In the soybean division Hunt Farms entry with their Asgrow entry won the full season irrigated division with a yield of 100.71 bushels per acre. That yield also earned Hunt Farms the State Championship. Brandon Hunt accepted the award and Christian County Agriculture Extension Agent Matt Futtrell was presented with the agents award for the state championship.
In the no-till corn division Folz Farms had the top yield in district two with their Beck’s hybrid entry that produced 296.78 bushels per acre.
