The Hopkinsville YMCA is preparing for a busy summer season with a wide range of job openings, youth programs, and free meals for children.
“Right now we have lots of things coming up,” said Kristen Lilly, associate director at the Hopkinsville YMCA. “Of course we’re hiring, we’re hiring pool maintenance, summer camp, a child care front desk, so all kind of things right now we’re hiring for for the season that’s coming up.”
According to Lilly, positions are available in several departments.
“So we’re hiring for pool maintenance, summer camp, child care, and front desk.”
In addition to employment opportunities, Lilly said the YMCA is offering a variety of summer programs for kids of all ages.
“We have the summer camp that’s open, swim lessons is open, we have a basketball clinic that’s open, and then of course we have all of our fitness classes that we have going on, and then we’re also going to be opening up some other camps that are going to be going out here soon,” she said.
Summer camp is available for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade.
“That runs from June 2nd until when school goes back,” Lilly said. “So they’ll have field trips, they’ll have activities, they’ll swim, you name it, they’ll be tired when they get home.”
Swim lessons are open to children as young as six months.
“Those are available, we have some already filled up, so we will be open session two in about a week, so people interested in that they can come in and sign up,” Lilly said. “Everything we do have a member rate and a non-member rate, so when you come in they can share those prices with you.”
The basketball clinic is open to students in fifth through twelfth grade and begins May 19.
“That runs for a week,” Lilly said. “We do have a dance camp that’s in June, that is ages five to eleven, and anybody can sign up for that. Those spots are limited, they’re already filling up.”
The YMCA is also offering more than just activities.
“We do feed anyone ages 18 and under,” Lilly said. “That is a free meal, they can stop in or if they’re one of our programs, we do feed them.”
Sports signups are currently underway as well.
“We do have t-ball, baseball signups going on. That does end next week.”
Lilly encouraged families to stop by and see everything the facility offers.
“Stop by, take a tour, and we’d love to see you, show you around, and then talk about all the programs we’ve talked about today.”
She highlighted the YMCA’s inclusive mission.
“We are a community fellowship,” Lilly said. “We’re here for everybody, anywhere from working out to all the camps that we offer, to the swim lessons, so we’re here for everyone.”
The Hopkinsville YMCA is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
