7 Friends Golf Tourney to Raise Scholarship Money Saturday

What began as a fundraiser 12 years ago to raise money for the 7 Friends Scholarship Fund has become one of the largest golf tournaments in Trigg County.

The 13th annual event will be held Saturday at Lake Barkley State Resort Park as a way to celebrate the memory of seven Trigg County teens who died in a two-vehicle crash just before Christmas in 1993.

Stephanie Perry lost her son Patric in the crash. He was the youngest of the seven, who had driven up the hill from their after-school jobs at Knight and Hale Game Calls to Hilltop Market for a dinner break. The crash happened on their way back to work, less than a mile from the market.

Following the crash, the 7 Friends Memorial Fund was created. It would later become the 7 Friends Memorial Scholarship which has handed out over a thousand scholarships to graduating seniors at Trigg County High School.

Perry said the golf scramble is just one way to remember the seven teens.

The first golf scramble was held in 2012 and as Perry noted, was spurred on by some people who have since died.
