Trigg County Hosts ‘National Day Of Prayer’ In Cadiz

With the City of Cadiz and Main Street bustling during the lunch hour, several local dignitaries, citizens and cross denominations quietly gathered at the front entrance of the Trigg County Judicial Center Thursday — humbly offering words for the “National Day of Prayer.”

Pastor Chris Downing, of Canton Baptist Church, said this year’s theme of “lift up the word — light up the world” is drawn inspiration from 2 Samuel 22:29-31.

Samuel’s second book actually continues the narrative of Israelite monarchy, covering the reign of King David during the 10th Century before Christ. This includes the transition of power from Saul, David’s 40-year reign, and the consequences of his personal, political and militaristic actions.

Downing called the passage “a petition and praise to God.”

Bobby Sellers, Director of Missions for the Little River Baptist Association, issued a hope for unity.

Looking to bring comfort and calm to city and county affairs, Mayor Todd King and Judge-Executive Stan Humphries also brought forth words of wisdom.

Pastor Matt Shown, of Crossroads Fellowship, subtly asked for the community to turn away from politics.

Liberty Point Baptist Church’s Pastor Brad Chalfin closed with benediction.
