Margaret Laird passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Margaret Laird of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away on March 25, 2024, at the age of 79. She was born on August 21, 1944, to the late Charles Laird and Henrietta Milam.

Margaret’s life journey took her to various cities, including Detroit, Michigan; Evansville, Indiana; Miami, Florida; Texarkana, Texas; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Yet, her heart always found its way back home to Cadiz, where she ultimately returned. It was here that she met and married the love of her life, Torby McAllister Jr., who upon first glance knew he was going to marry her. They shared 48 years together and welcomed their daughter, Mary Miller, into the world.

Margaret was a woman of many talents. She was a great gardener and enjoyed growing tomatoes, peppers, and gorgeous sunflowers. She loved playing cards and was always up for a game of rummy. An incredible cook, she loved to entertain, always making sure her loved ones were well-fed. She enjoyed watching old westerns, never missing an episode of Gun Smoke or Bonanza, and testing her knowledge with Jeopardy, often answering questions before the contestants could.

Becoming a grandmother was a cherished milestone for Margaret, and she embraced her role as “Nana” with unconditional love and devotion, shaping her granddaughter Brittany’s childhood with unforgettable memories. Margaret could light up a room, and her contagious laugh and vibrant spirit brought warmth and joy to everyone around her. She was a devoted Christian and a member of East Cadiz Baptist Church. Her faith was very important to her, and prayer was always a key part of her day.

In her passing, Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved her.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Mary Miller, and granddaughter, Brittany Stewart, of Charlotte, NC; sister, Polly Hancock, of Texarkana, TX; sisters-in-law, Mary Bogard and Madie Calhoun; and brothers-in-law, Alex McAllister and Tommy Calhoun, all of Cadiz, KY. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Torby McAllister Jr.; sisters, Alice Reed, Leona Boyd, and Roberta Carney; her brother, Clarence Laird; and several nieces and nephews.
