Livingston Hospital Named A Top Critical Access Hospital

Located in Salem, Livingston Hospital was recently named one of the top 20 “critical access hospitals” for Best Practices In Quality, in the country.

The rankings were revealed by the National Rural Health Association, in which scores were determined by the Chartis Center for Rural Health.

As such, these hospitals have achieved success in overall performance based on a composite rating from multiple categories, which include quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge, finance, in-patient market share and outpatient market share.

These top 20 hospitals have also achieved success in one of two key areas of performance:

— Quality index, which is a rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across rural and relevant process of care measures.

— And patient perspective index, which is a rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across all 10 hospital domains.

Shane Whittington, CEO, said he “proud of the efforts of the physicians and staff who have contributed to [the] hospital achieving this designation.”

A licensed 25-bed critical access hospital with a solid reputation and rich history of providing high quality, compassionate care to the people of Livingston and its surrounding communities, it was established in 1954 as the Salem Community Medical Building, Inc. by the Salem Lions Club and a group of civic and community-minded citizens.

The hospital was built then in order to support Dr. Roscoe Faulkner, in his efforts to meet the health care needs of the residents of Livingston, Crittenden and Lyon counties.

In January 2022, hospital officials entered into an affiliation agreement with Deaconess Health System of Evansville, Indiana, to manage and provide additional support for services.
