Man Charged After Hopkinsville Pursuit

A Hopkinsville man was charged after he reportedly led law enforcement on a pursuit in Hopkinsville Sunday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop 26-year-old Tavarious Mathews for not having headlights in the area of Broad Street and he fled.

During the pursuit, police say he almost hit two officers that were out on Central Avenue on a separate call.

Law enforcement used spike strips on East 18th Street and the pursuit came to an end at James Village Apartments on East 21st Street.

Mathews was arrested and charged with DUI, first-degree fleeing or evading police, disregarding a stop sign, reckless driving, failure to illuminate headlamps, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, second-degree disorderly conduct, and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.
