Pepper was chosen out of nine total applicants for the District 4 seat. Among the applicants were former school board member and board chairman for six years Linda Keller, former South Christian Elementary School educator, Delinda Norrid, and Desma Blount who formerly served as vice principal at Ft. Campbell’s Barkley Elementary School for the past seven years with over 20 years of education experience in the Ft. Campbell district.

The other applicants included Herndon grain farmer, Gary Haile, a vocal opponent of the high school consolidation and the first to announce his interest in the school board seat, Caleb Ballard, local attorney, Michael Thompson, Lafayette resident, Thomas Parker, and Hopkinsville realtor Amy Falco.

The seat became vacant when Michael Walker announced on November 25 that he was resigning from the District 4 seat. The school board met in a special session on November 28 and accepted his resignation and began its search for his replacement.
