Red Flag Warning Issued For Thursday

For the second time in a week, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for western Kentucky.

The Red Flag Warning takes effect Thursday morning at 10 am and runs through 7 Thursday night.

The weather service said an increase in southwest winds is expected Thursday which will only bring a small increase in moisture while afternoon high temperatures are expected to be 10 to 15 degrees warmer than on Wednesday. This will combine with very dry fuels in the area due to the persistent drought to create critical fire danger across the region Thursday.

Most of western Kentucky has seen only two days of measurable rain in the last 36 days.

Weather officials say Thursday’s weather could be similar to last Friday’s when several field fires got out of hand and destroyed acres of land along with buildings and vehicles.
