New Arraignment Revealed In Curtis Case

Already charged with murder and abuse of a corpse, a new arraignment for Shaylynn Curtis was revealed during her Wednesday pre-trial conference in Trigg County Circuit Court.

Her public defender, Cody Hooks, formally entered a “not guilty” plea for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Hooks asked 56th Circuit Judge Jamus Redd to have any and all evidence in this case be preserved, “given the nature of the offenses,” and asked for another pre-trial conference.

Curtis spoke for the first time on her own behalf, and created some shock.

Redd ruled for the next pre-trial conference on all charges to occur June 8.

In her February appearance, Curtis heard Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins note that her office would be seeking to combine all charges into one trial.

Following a Kentucky State Police investigation completed in October 2021, Curtis allegedly took the body of her deceased 5-month-old, wrapped the child in a blanket, and placed him in the attic of her home on East Adams Mill Road.

At the time, the child had reportedly been dead for nearly 24 hours.

Reports further indicated that Curtis made no attempts at calls for emergency assistance or medical attention for the infant. Law enforcement arrived following phone calls from associates of Curtis, seeking wellness checks for the child.
