Trigg Schools Moves To ‘Mask Optional’ Wednesday

Trigg County Public Schools officials have announced that its campus will begin a “mask optional” approaching for all buildings and buses, beginning Wednesday morning and until further notice.

Following lengthy discussions with board members and administrators, Trigg County Superintendent Bill Thorpe made the decision to move to this option for all students and staff.

Thorpe said he and school officials have been following the Center for Disease Control and Kentucky Department of Education guidelines for COVID-19 precautions since March 2020. The school’s numbers have been the lowest they have been since the beginning of the pandemic, and Thorpe said the district feels comfortable removing the requirement of masks for the campus.

Students and staff will still be allowed to wear masks if they feel more comfortable, but again, it’s no longer required.

Committed to health and safety of students, staff and the community, Thorpe said the four schools will continue to disinfect and teach proper hand-washing procedures.

Trigg County’s decision comes after new guidance arrived from the CDC on February 25.
