CCHD Says ‘Delta Variant’ Numbers Harder To Determine

As the number of active COVID-19 cases is rising again, the Christian County Health Department is answering a question about the “Delta variant.”

On Friday, the health department reported 37 new COVID-19 cases, with 47 deemed active cases. 35 of those cases were between the ages of 22 and 59. At that time, it was unclear if any of those cases were the fast-spreading variant.

Department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney-Brunt tells the News Edge, it takes a while to learn if a new positive case is from the new strand of the virus.

Sweeney-Brunt says the health department is giving the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines Thursdays by appointment-only from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

She adds if you are looking for the Pfizer vaccine, there are other locations across the county giving them out.

The health department will also offer safe-sitter class on July 28 and a safe-at-home class on July 29.
