Ham Festival Updates Include Fireworks But No Parade

The Trigg County Country Ham Festival is three months away, and organizers are continuing their work to get plans finalized for the two-day event in downtown Cadiz on October 8 and 9.

The ham festival committee has narrowed its focus in the past two months, deciding to host a fireworks show downtown on Saturday night.

The committee was also informed by Mayor Todd King that there would be no Sunday parade again this year since the festival is a Friday-Saturday event.

Main Street Manager and festival committee chairman Casey Parrent said vendor booth space is 100-percent committed with a waiting list although just 20-percent have paid in advance.

She said the parking lot next to the justice center will have some food vendors as will the farmer’s market area on Main Street.

The committee also learned the Trigg County Tourism Commission is pledging $20,000 to book entertainment for the two days with the program to consist of mostly local musical acts.

Trigg County Family and Consumer Science Agent Cecilia Hostilo said cooking and canning contests will be held as they were pre-COVID with the exception of the bake-off and pork recipe contest, which won’t be held this year.

She said they will be able to have the world’s largest country ham and biscuit and sell samples for the public. The annual ham auction will also be held.

The ham festival is working to secure sponsors for the entire festival or individual events. Those interested can contact Parrent at Cadiz City Hall.
