The Eddyville Riverport has been awarded $126,500 in funding to make critical repairs and equipment replacement.

The funding is part of $500,000 in the form of grants that Governor Andy Beshear announced Thursday morning would be matched by authorities that operate the riverports in Eddyville, Paducah, Hickman, Owensboro and Louisville.

Governor Beshear said from roads to riverports, quality transportation systems are vital to support a thriving economy. He added that this investment in the state’s riverports will improve operations to move cargo more efficiently and safely.

According to the governor’s office, the Eddyville Riverport and Industrial Development Authority will use the funding toward the repair of the main loading dock to improve safety and prevent issues caused by corrosion of the steel components. The project will involve replacing eroded dock tieback rods, installing new whalers and steel plates on the dock, grouting to fill voids and installing new precast concrete fenders.

The 2021 Kentucky General Assembly appropriated the funding for the grants, and riverports applied for the grants to the Water Transportation Advisory Board. The board then recommended the awards which are administered by Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
