Caldwell & Lyon Counties Wi-Fi Speed Test Participation Rate Among State’s Highest

In the first week after Kentucky launched the Broadband Speed Test, state officials report Caldwell and Lyon are among counties in the commonwealth with the highest participation rates so far.

Deb Domke, the executive director with the Lake Barkley Chamber of Commerce, released an update the Chamber received from the governor’s office Wednesday regarding the internet speed test.

According to the update from Lieutenant-Governor Jacqueline Coleman, one week into the statewide speed test, 31,400 households have participated so far. In the first week, she said Kentucky has just about outpaced other states that began their speed tests six months ago. Coleman added the counties that have the highest participation rates so far are Scott, Harlan, Caldwell, Woodford, and Lyon. She thanked everyone in these counties for making this a priority. Coleman also urged everyone, no matter where you are from, to participate in the Broadband Speed Test.

As previously reported by the News Edge, the state launched the free, anonymous Broadband Speed Test on January 19. The crowd-sourcing test is being conducted in order to gather data from Kentuckians needed to expand internet access for distance learning, telework, and telehealth.

The deadline to complete the test is February 18th. You can take the test by clicking here. The test can be done from any device connected to the Wi-Fi signal in your home.

If you do not have Wi-Fi access in your home, state officials said you can visit your local library or other locations such as stores or restaurants that offer free internet access to submit the address of your home with no available service.
