Interstate 24 Will Have Some Rough Spots Through The Holidays

The original 13-mile work zone on Interstate 24 in Caldwell, Trigg, and Lyon counties will be rough through the Christmas and New Year’s Day holiday.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd tells the News Edge most of the original work zone is being cleaned up, except for a few spots. One of those spots includes where a semi-truck hauling 48,000 pounds of cooking oil caught fire late Tuesday night.

Todd adds one-lane will be closed where the truck caught fire until a permanent repair can be made next year.

There are signs warning drivers in the eastbound lanes that the road is in a rough condition where the truck and oil caught fire. The repairs should take a week or two and be completed in January, barring any harsh winter weather.

In other areas along that 13-mile stretch of Interstate 24, Todd adds they are removing the barrier wall that separates the two westbound lanes.

Complete rehabilitation of about six-miles of concrete in the westbound lanes will begin in the spring.
