Magistrates Hear About Opening Of New Public Safety Building

Christian County Fiscal Court magistrates Tuesday morning heard updates regarding the opening of the new Public Safety building and magistrates unanimously approved a county road aid cooperative contract and resolution with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for the next fiscal year.

Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond informed magistrates an open house for the new Public Safety Building will be Friday with the building set to open for business on Monday.

The new building will feature two drive-up lanes for administrative issues such as paying taxes and vehicle inspections have been added. The walk-in entrance will be on West 7th Street. Office hours will continue to be from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In new business, Judge-Executive Steve Tribble informed magistrates pursuant to the agreement the Transportation Cabinet holds a percentage of the county’s funds in case the money is needed for an emergency.

County Treasurer Walter Cummings noted the amount is about $5,000 more than last year.

Magistrates also approved Judge Tribble’s recommendations to reappoint former magistrate David Collins to the Little River Water Quality Consortium Board for a two-year term, and the appointment of Ken Tucker to the Christian County Airport Board to fill the unexpired term of Wes Westerfield who is resigning from the seat at the end of April.

Magistrate Darrell Gustafson, who is on the Airport Board, gave a brief update of projects at the airport. He said the hangar is just about complete and the next project is the asphalt. In addition, he announced the Airport Board is expanding from six members to ten.

The next regularly scheduled fiscal court meeting will be Tuesday morning, May 14, at 8:30.
