Governor Appoints Heiner And Cundiff To State Education Board

Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Secretary Hal Heiner is stepping down. Heiner announced his resignation Monday morning.

Governor Matt Bevin announced Monday morning that he has appointed Heiner to the Kentucky Board of Education. Heiner has been a member of the Asbury University Board of Trustees, the University of Louisville Board of Overseers, the Summit Academy Board of Trustees, and the Metro Leadership Foundation. Heiner holds a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Louisville and is the founder of Capstone Realty, which has been responsible for bringing over 5,000 jobs to the Louisville area.

Meanhwile, Governor Bevin announced he has appointed Ben Cundiff to a full term on the Kentucky Board of Education. Cundiff was originally appointed in May 2016 to fill an unexpired term. Cundiff has been the owner and operator of Cundiff Farms since 1967. He was a practicing attorney from 1973 until 1991, and served as Chairman and CEO of Trigg County Farmers Bank from 1991 until 2000. Cundiff is a graduate of the Kentucky Military Institute and holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt University as well as a juris doctorate from Vanderbilt Law School. He also serves on the board of directors for the Gatton Academy of Math and Science at Western Kentucky University, the Prichard Committee of Academic Excellence, University Heights Academy and the Governor’s Scholar Foundation.
