Bentzel Lays Out Graduation Location Decision Timeline

Christian County Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel says district officials are continuing preparations for Friday night’s graduation ceremonies, with a final decision on whether the ceremonies will be held indoors or outdoors expected by midday Friday.

Christian County High School’s commencement ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by Hopkinsville High School’s graduation at 8:30 p.m. Both ceremonies are currently planned for the Stadium of Champions.

However, with significant rain in the forecast, Bentzel said school officials are preparing contingency plans in case severe weather forces ceremonies indoors.

In a video released to social media on Wednesday afternoon, Bentzel says district leaders will hold a weather meeting on Thursday, along with senior class meetings, before making a final decision on graduation locations by noon Friday.

Bentzel emphasized that the district’s primary goal remains holding the ceremonies outdoors if conditions can be managed safely.

Officials say concerns involving lightning, strong winds, severe weather, or heavy rain could prompt a move indoors.

If ceremonies remain outside, Bentzel encouraged families to prepare for wet conditions by bringing rain gear while leaving umbrellas at home or in vehicles so they do not block views for other attendees.

Should the weather force graduation to be held indoors in each school’s gymnasium, each graduating senior would receive 10 tickets for family members to attend.
