The Pennyrile Area Community Band is inviting the public to a free concert on Friday evening in Hopkinsville, featuring a program that celebrates both familiar music and the musical legacy of local schools.
Band Director Lori Boehman says the concert will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the Christian County Middle School Performing Arts Center.

The Pennyrile Area Community Band includes both students and teachers, with Boehman saying the ensemble has about 50 members when everyone can attend.
She noted the group has existed for around a decade, estimating the band is now in its 10th or 11th year.
While the concert is free and open to the public, Boehman says donations will be accepted to help support the group and its future performances.
The Friday concert is one of several appearances planned for the band this year. Boehman says the group will also perform at Casey Jones Distillery and The Bruce in Hopkinsville in July, along with another patriotic-themed performance in Cadiz later in the summer as communities mark America’s 250th anniversary.
Boehman says the band is always looking for new members and welcomes anyone interested in joining.
The Pennyrile Area Community Band rehearses on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville.
