A native of Hopkinsville, KY, she was born November 14, 1943, the daughter of the late Fred and Charlotte Spain Valente. In 1963, Patty graduated from Bethel College with a degree in Liberal Arts. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, earning a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Psychology in 1965. She later completed a master’s degree in English at Austin Peay State University. Patty began her teaching career in Maryland in 1965, where she taught English for five years. In 1970, she returned to her hometown of Hopkinsville and devoted the next 27 years to teaching English at Christian County High School.

Patty was a highly driven educational leader who wore many hats within her local community and throughout the state of Kentucky. She co‑founded the Christian County High School Academic Team and served as its coach from 1984 to 1997. Working alongside fellow educators, she also helped establish the Western Kentucky Academic Association. Patty later served on the Board of Directors for the State of Kentucky Academic Team.

Deeply passionate about fostering a love of learning and intellectual pursuits, she was actively involved in the National Education Association, the Kentucky Education Association, and the Christian County Teachers Association. Her leadership extended to serving as President of the Third District KEA and Secretary of the Christian County Retired Teachers Association. In recognition of her exceptional dedication to public education and the academic success of future generations, she was named the 1981 runner‑up for Kentucky Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Department of Education.

Patty, never the one for unproductive idleness, would find herself in the Queen’s Court Homemakers’ Club, the Pierian Literary Club, Five Star Book Club, various bridge groups and even the president of the Katherine Peden Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she was awarded Woman of the Year in 1978.

Patty loved her Lord and Savior and dedicated time and resources to teaching others about Him. Over the years, Patty served as an adult Sunday School teacher, children’s director, and church librarian. At the time of her death, she was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she was involved in the women’s ministry. In her downtime, she enjoyed fishing, traveling, and reading. Upon retirement, she became an avid world traveler. Most of all, Patty loved spending time with her family and was actively involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Wendell Lancaster.

She is survived by her sisters: Jeannie Valente Lancaster of Hopkinsville, KY, Gloria Valente Major (George) of Mooresville, NC, Betty Valente Kelley (John) of Raleigh, NC, and Anita Valente Boyd (Doug) of Eddyville, KY; her nieces and nephews: Kirk Lancaster, Kerry Lancaster, Barry Lancaster, Brett Major, Lori Wilkinson, Mark Kelley, Ryann Mabry, and Douglas Boyd, Jr.; and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Patty’s memory to the Women’s Ministry at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
