A Breckinridge County man was charged with arson in connection with a fire at Land Between The Lakes near the Taylor Bay campground last Friday.
According to a citation filed in Trigg County District Court, 33-year-old Brandon Scott of the Webster community was charged with third-degree arson and first-degree wanton endangerment.
The citation said a bag full of clothing, boots, a burnt car, and an active fire were found on Forest Service Road 322.
An investigation by US Forestry officers determined that a key, a photo of the vehicle identification number, a blow torch, and a copy of the vehicle’s insurance were located inside, as well as medication for Scott.
According to the report, Scott was found at the Energy Lake Campground gatehouse charging his phone on Saturday, and said he intentionally lit a fire in the vehicle, walked away, and told God to burn it.
A woman who had reportedly been with him told officers he was driving recklessly on back roads at speeds around 100 mph, and got the vehicle stuck in the mud. She said she feared for her life and called a friend to pick her up.
Forestry officials said the fire burned 84 acres near the Energy Lake area and was eventually contained.
