Downed trees and power outages were the main impacts from a line of strong thunderstorms that rolled through the area Sunday night. The storms were part of a squall line that formed to the west of Kentucky and rolled through as part of a cold front that has dropped temperatures more than 30 degrees in the past 24 hours.
Trees were reported down in numerous Hopkinsville locations including Ovil Road, Pembroke-Fairview Road, South Clay Street, Stone Lane, Madisonville Road, Cavanah Lane, Florence Street, Nelson Drive, Country Club Lane, Jessup Drive, Fort Campbell Boulevard at Old Clarksville Pike, There was also the report of a tree fire at Daven Drive.
Power outages affected several thousand residents in the wake of the Sunday night storms. In the immediate aftermath of the storms, Pennyrile Electric reported that all of its line crews were responding to 72 outages, affecting 3,881 members. Officials reported finding 5 broken main-line poles near Fruit Hill and a broken three-phase pole on Greenville Road. As of 5am Monday morning, Pennyrile was reporting 48 outages affecting 1799 customers.
Hopkinsville Electric reported scattered outages around their service area after the storms. As of 5am, there were fewer than 20 reported outages across the city.
Hopkinsville Fire and EMS reported multiple emergencies after the storms, including a structure fire and vehicle accidents. Personnel reported debris and trees blocking multiple roads. Nearly every staffed apparatus was on the roadway after the storms passed through.
