City Prepares to Clean Elk Fork

Elkton is looking at ways to prevent flooding in the city, starting with cleaning up downed trees in the river.

Thursday night, Mayor Arthur Green told the City Council they surveyed the river through the city to determine where it needs work to prevent flooding.

click to download audioHe says once the state of the whole river is known, they can look for funding sources.

In other business, City Council approved a five-year extension of the solid waste contract with GFL. The contract locks in a maximum four percent annual increase cap.

City Council also approved second readings of the budget amendment and accepted Riverbend Dr and Riverbend Court into the city road system, as well as applying for grant funds to purchase new weapons for the police department and for hazardous duty retirement for the police department.

Mayor Green also updated council members on the grain bin rescue trailer and equipment fundraising.
