During his Thursday “Team Kentucky” update, Governor Andy Beshear highlighted programs and initiatives ranging from infrastructure and public health to law enforcement and economic development.
+ March, he said, is “Developmental Disabilities” Month, noting that more than 385,000 Kentuckians live with such issues. Beshear said the state must continue improving access to health care, housing, education and public spaces to ensure those residents have opportunities to succeed.
+ Beshear also announced strong results from the Kentucky Main Street Program, with participating communities reporting $75.6 million invested in downtown commercial districts in 2025, creating 395 new jobs and 72 new businesses.
+ On infrastructure, the governor announced nearly $6.5 million for 10 bridge projects across eight counties and two cities through the County and City Bridge Improvement Program, aimed at improving safety and travel on locally owned bridges.
+ March is also “Kidney Month,” with Beshear noting that more than 1 in 7 U.S. adults have chronic kidney disease, and many do not know it. He encouraged Kentuckians—especially those with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease—to discuss screening with their doctors and consider registering as organ donors.
+ Findings from an independent review of Kentucky’s foster care system conducted by the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet Office of the Inspector General found that non-traditional placements for foster children are rare, accounting for about 1–2% of cases, and that more than half of those placements last 24 hours or less.
+ Beshear also praised the work of the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch, which made seven arrests in February and early March connected to alleged online child exploitation. The investigations were conducted through the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
In addition, the governor announced the Strengthen Kentucky Homes Program is now accepting applications, offering grants of up to $10,000 to help homeowners strengthen roofs against high winds and hail.
+ Finally, and in the spirit of “March Madness,” Beshear named several college basketball teams as this week’s Team Kentucky All-Stars, recognizing programs competing in conference tournaments ahead of the NCAA Tournament.
Honorees include the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball, which topped Missouri Thursday afternoon, Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball, Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball, Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball, Murray State Racers women’s basketball, and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers men’s basketball.
