The board of the Janice Mason Art Museum, on Main Street in Cadiz, is seeking to raise $150,000 to replace the building’s aging roof and its iconic cupola, which officials say has deteriorated after more than 80 years.

Persistent leaks have caused significant rot and structural damage in the roof and attic, as well as plaster damage in the lobby and gallery ceilings. A preservation architect, Josh Vernon of Urban Fabric in Murray, has been hired to guide the replacement process.

The project will also include replacing the lobby’s 28-year-old HVAC system and making exterior trim repairs while construction crews are on site.

Museum officials say the new cupola will look exactly like the original, using the building’s 1938 architectural plans, but will be built with modern materials to better withstand future weather.

The museum board says grant applications have not produced funding, making community support essential. As a nonprofit organization, donations to the campaign will be fully tax deductible.
