Oscar Cotton Jr., 79, of Madisonville, KY, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Dogwood Funerals & Cremations of Crofton. Burial will follow at the Colwell Family Cemetery in Hopkinsville. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Dogwood Funerals & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Sample, KY, he was born February 25, 1947, as the son of the late Oscar Allen Cotton Sr. and Gracie Mae Wardrip Cotton. Oscar served his country bravely as a US Marine during the Vietnam War and worked for CSX Transportation in various positions on the railroad until his retirement. In his downtime, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, geology, and hiking in the woods. His family fondly recalls his love for all animals and nature.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Mae Cotton; his brother, Charles Cotton; his nephew, David Cotton, Jr.; and his niece, Beth Cotton.
He is survived by his children: Crystal (Chad) Boehne, Romona Lovinggood, Melissa Turner, Theresa Patterson, and Ricky Staton; his brothers: David Cotton, Kenneth Cotton, Roger Cotton, Mark Cotton, and Robert Cotton; his sisters: Linda O’Bannon and Sharon Groves; and his six grandchildren: Alijah Boehne, Oliver Boehne, Tyler Patterson, Blake Eidson, Gregory Turner, and Nicole Standard; and his nine great-grandchildren.
