A Princeton man and woman were arrested on a series of charges after a standoff with law enforcement in Lyon County on Tuesday.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White reports that, around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, an off-duty deputy spotted a vehicle connected to several recent thefts parked at Dollar General on KY 293, just south of Eddyville.
Sheriff White says he responded to the store and tried to stop the vehicle as it left the parking lot. When the driver attempted to flee, Sheriff White says he blocked the truck’s path, but the suspect tried to push the sheriff’s cruiser back onto KY 293, and was successfully stopped.
According to Sheriff White, the driver, later identified as 46-year-old Thomas Prevatte, did not comply with law enforcement commands and brandished a handgun in front of a passenger, later identified as 48-year-old Angela Egbert, which led to a long standoff with law enforcement.
Authorities say Egbert eventually got out of the vehicle, and just after 6:00 p.m., Prevatte also exited the vehicle. Both were taken into custody by law enforcement.
During their investigation, police say they discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office.
Prevatte faces a total of 16 charges, including several traffic violations, first-degree fleeing or evading police, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree terroristic threatening, theft by unlawful taking of a vehicle valued between $1,000 and $10,000, and complicity to theft by unlawful taking valued between $1,000 and $10,000.
Prevatte was also wanted on bench warrants from McCracken County for contempt of court and probation violation.
Egbert was charged with third-degree criminal trespassing, theft by unlawful taking of a vehicle valued between $1,000 and $10,000, and complicity to theft by unlawful taking between $1,000 and $10,000.
Both Prevatte and Egbert were lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are pending.
