Artists are being invited to explore the idea of “Nature in Balance” as part of the Fourth Annual Nature Art Exhibition at Murray State University.

The juried exhibition, set for April 10 through May 1 in the Logan Biology Building Atrium, is part of the university’s Earth Day 2026 observance. This year’s theme asks artists to consider the delicate balance that sustains life on the planet — from thriving ecosystems and biodiversity to climate stress, human development and environmental restoration.

Rather than limiting the concept, organizers are encouraging broad interpretations. Submissions might highlight harmony in the natural world, call attention to its vulnerability or imagine pathways toward a more sustainable future. Artwork inspired by local, regional or global environments is welcome.

The exhibition is hosted by Murray State’s Watershed Studies Institute, the Department of Biological Sciences, the Department of Art and Design, and the Murray Art Guild.

The show is open to artists 18 and older. Eligible works include photography, painting, mixed media and three-dimensional pieces, though AI-generated artwork will not be accepted. Entries must be original, created within the past three years and ready for gallery display.

There is no entry fee, and artists may submit up to three works for consideration. Digital submissions are due March 12, with acceptance notifications scheduled for March 27. Accepted artwork will be delivered and installed April 10 from 2 to 4 p.m.

An awards reception is planned for April 23 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Biology Atrium. Cash prizes will be awarded for best overall artwork, second and third place, along with two honorable mentions.

Artwork will remain on display through May 1.
