Saints Peter & Paul Parish and School in Hopkinsville announced Monday it will suspend its Middle School program beginning this August, following a review of enrollment trends, long-term sustainability and extensive listening sessions with families and leadership.
In a written release, school and parish officials said the decision was made after prayerful discernment and consultation with the Diocese of Owensboro and the School Board. Leaders emphasized the suspension is not a permanent closure, but a strategic step to strengthen the school’s future.
Saints Peter & Paul will shift its focus to growing and enhancing its Pre-K through 5th grade program, with an emphasis on Catholic identity, academic excellence and long-term stability.
Current seventh-grade students may be allowed to complete eighth grade and graduate in 2027, provided enrollment levels are sufficient. Parents are invited to an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 10, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss details.
Parish leaders say the Middle School has been suspended in the past and later restored, and they view this transition as a period of renewal rather than permanent closure.
