What began as a traffic stop for a stolen vehicle led to a pursuit and an attempted carjacking on Fort Campbell Boulevard Thursday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say when they tried to stop the stolen vehicle, the driver fled, almost colliding with other vehicles, and struck a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and the Eagle Way Bypass.

Police say both the driver and the passenger ran and tried to take a car from a woman in the parking lot of the JennieCare Urgent Clinic before they were tased and taken into custody.

Hopkinsville resident Hannah Reeves was in her vehicle in the parking lot of JennieCare Urgent Care when she heard the crash and saw two people run toward her car. She said her first instinct was to protect her 10-month-old child in the back seat.

She says one of the suspects tried to enter her locked vehicle before they were taken into custody by officers. Reeves says relying on her maternal instincts may have altered the intended outcome of the suspects.

Reeves had nothing but praise for the job done by Hopkinsville Police and others involved in the pursuit and subsequent arrests.

She says the work of police officers is largely unrecognized, which is why she felt it was important to offer praise where it was deserved.

Police say no one was injured in the pursuit, and the suspects were armed.

The car was reported stolen in Nashville, and police say the identities of the two individuals are unknown at this time.

Law enforcement added that they were notified of the stolen vehicle in the area by city cameras.

This story will be updated with more information as it’s available.
