More than 725 summer and fall credentials were doled out during Friday’s pair of fall commencement ceremonies at Hopkinsville Community College.
But someone still in deep pursuit of career and education, however, is HCC Student Government Association President Jessica Jones.
A second-semester nursing student, she first stepped on the campus in 2003 and left in 2007 with the pregnancy of her first child. Nearly 20 years later, she’s back, thanks to HCC’s aptitude and belief of “welcoming someone where they are” — regardless of age, background or winding path back to the classroom.
A 54-year collegiate mathematics educator, 18-year KCTCS veteran and HCC’s Distance Learning Coordinator, the soon-to-retire Sally Jackman said every award Friday represents “not just an academic achievement, but a story.”
“A story of determination, resilience and transformation.”
Dr. Alissa Young, HCC’s sixth-ever president & CEO, wrapped some holiday cheer around the moment.
HCC is heading into Year No. 61, and Dr. Young noted the previous six decades only helped put the school, and the community, in this position of success — and she challenged graduates to take the next great step.
Conferred credentials usually include associates in arts, in science, in applied science, certificates and diplomas.
