Over the last couple of weeks, constituents in south western Kentucky may have received a mailer from Representative Walker Thomas — one detailing some upcoming priorities in the 2026 regular session of the Kentucky General Assembly, while offering a questionnaire for legislative input.
Those nine questions included:
1) What is the most important issue the legislature should address, beginning in January?
2) How concerned are you about property taxes in Kentucky?
3) What are your top three priority areas for state spending, and do they include jobs, education, the opioid epidemic, the public pension liability, infrastructure, Medicaid, public health programming and/or public safety and law enforcement?
4) How concerned are you about the reliability of the electric grid?
5) What steps do you believe would most help improve access to affordable, quality childcare in your community?
6) Should Kentucky do more to help individuals transition from government assistance programs?
7) Should parents and guardians be held accountable if their minor child commits a crime?
8) Would you vote for a constitutional amendment to automatically restore voting rights to individuals convicted of a felony, after they have completed their sentence and any probation or parole — outside of treason, sexual offenses, crimes against children or election-related crimes?
9) And do you believe Kentucky’s eminent domain laws should be updated?
Thomas confirmed in this mailer that the state House and Senate will likely take action on all of the following topics, and likely more:
+ The 2026-28 biennium budget
+ More road, bridge and infrastructure investment
+ Education
+ Medicaid
+ Public safety
+ Workforce shortages
+ Housing shortages
+ Artificial intelligence, and its pros and cons
+ And an overall improving of constituent health
Specifically, Thomas noted that the state currently needs 200,000 new units to meet housing demands, while diabetes, blood pressure and obesity remain as major chronic concerns.
Furthermore, Thomas wrote that AI’s ability to clone voices could be used to defraud and defame family members and friends, but that it can also be used a tool to harness good.
