Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight Jr. has announced the return of the Mayor’s Youth Council, a leadership program designed to engage local high school students in civic affairs and community service.
The 2025-26 class marks the eighth edition of the Mayor’s Youth Council, also known as MYC. Applications are now open to all Christian County high school juniors and seniors — whether they attend public, private, or homeschool programs.
The council gives students a platform to address community issues, suggest youth-focused solutions, and develop leadership skills through hands-on interaction with city government and local leaders.
Applicants must attend school in Christian County, be entering their junior or senior year this fall, and commit to full participation in MYC sessions. The application deadline is Friday, October 17.
Students can apply online at www.hoptown.org/myc. Each application must include student information and a résumé, two letters of recommendation, and a signed participant release form.
Selected finalists will be invited to interviews between October 27–30, with selection notices emailed by November 3. The official class will be announced at the November 4 City Council meeting, followed by a mandatory orientation on November 15.
The MYC program, launched in 2015, offers teens a chance to work directly with city departments and community leaders while learning how local government functions. Its mission is to equip, inspire, and mobilize young people to take meaningful action that benefits Hopkinsville.
