Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree announced Wednesday morning that he will run for re-election in 2026.
Acree made the announcement in front of the Trigg County Justice Center before a large crowd that included deputies, community members, and other supporters. Acree says he has kept his promise to Trigg County after winning his first term as sheriff following his appointment to the office after the resignation of Jason Barnes.

click to download audioAcree was appointed to serve as Trigg County Sheriff in August of 2020 by former Trigg County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander following the resignation of Jason Barnes. He was elected to his first full term as sheriff in 2022 after winning the November General Election that included four write-in opponents. Acree previously served as a Kentucky State Trooper and a Cadiz Police Officer.
Acree will face a challenge from Christian County Jail deputy and former Hopkinsville Police and Trigg County Deputy Sheriff Mike Sandbrink who announced his intention to run as a republican August 14th.
