As National Lost Pet Prevention Month kicks off in July, Christian County Animal Shelter is joining national nonprofit Petco Love to help families avoid the heartbreak of a missing pet.
More pets go missing during summer than any other season, often due to fireworks, road trips, or open doors. With July 4th historically seeing the highest number of lost pet reports, local pet owners are encouraged to prepare now by uploading a photo of their dog or cat to Petco Love Lost.
This free, nationwide database uses photo-matching technology to help reunite pets with their families.
The platform allows users to create a digital profile for their pets, which can be used to quickly report them missing. The system searches its database—spanning major shelters and community apps like Nextdoor and Neighbors by Ring—for photo matches, helping to speed up reunions.
The Christian County Animal Shelter serves Christian, Todd, and Trigg counties and says the platform is already helping reunite local pets. Real-life stories like Ziggy, a dog reunited with his owner 365 miles away, and Millie, found just 14 hours after disappearing across state lines, show the system’s impact.
Pet owners can upload a photo today and be ready if their pet goes missing tomorrow. Find a lost pet? Upload their photo too. Petco Love Lost is free, fast, and could make all the difference.
