George Franklin Dossett, 86, of Edisto Island, SC, entered his Heavenly Home on June 7, 2025. A Graveside Committal Service will be Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 9:00 AM at New Ebenezer Cemetery, where George will be laid to rest among family and loved ones.
Family and friends are warmly welcomed to gather and honor a man who touched countless lives with his kindness, dedication, and boundless love. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home is entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
George was born on February 23, 1939, in Todd County, Kentucky, to the late Bennie Warren Dossett and Mable Lee Thompson Dossett.
George grew up in Kentucky, where he worked on his family’s farm. After many years, he embarked on a new journey and began his career at Thomas Industries in Hopkinsville. During his time there, he formed lifelong friendships that ignited his love for golf and led to cherished golf trips over the years. Above all, Kentucky was where George built his beloved family, which remained the center of his life..
George made Edisto his home in 1988. After working for Fairfield (now Wyndham) for a time, he took a leap of faith and started his own landscaping business, a venture that would define his legacy on the island. Arguably the hardest working man on Edisto, George quickly became one of Edisto’s most respected and beloved figures. Affectionately referred to as “Mr. George,” he was a friend to all who knew him.
He cherished his family and friends deeply, and his passions included the music of George Jones, cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats, rooting for the New York Yankees, and supporting the Washington Commanders.
George was preceded in death by six brothers: Kenneth Clayton “Jake” Dossett, Douglas “Doug” Warren Dossett, Delmar Thomas “Tommy” Dossett, Roy Gene Dossett, Allen Street Dossett, and James “Jim” Dossett; and two sisters: Dora Lee Dossett and Zelmar Kathleen Dossett.
He is survived by his loving children, Sheryl “Sherry” Leeper (Nicholas) of Edisto Island, SC and Brian Dossett (Megan) of Greenville, SC; five brothers: Gordon Nelson Dossett of Adairville, KY, Robert Peter “Pete” Dossett (Ruth Ann) of Elkton, KY, Bruce David Dossett of Fairview, KY, Roger Glenn Dossett (Cheryl) of Elkton, KY, and Charles Hubert Dossett (Elizabeth) of Hopkinsville, KY; and two cherished grandchildren, Ann Katherine “Anna Kate” and Thomas “Tommy” Patrick Dossett both of Greenville SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Edisto Beach Baptist Church in Edisto Beach, SC, Bellview Baptist Church in Allegre, KY, or the University of Kentucky general scholarship fund. These contributions will honor George’s generous heart and his unwavering commitment to his faith, his community, and his cherished Kentucky Wildcats. The family deeply appreciates your thoughtfulness in remembering George in this special way.
