A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting his dog with a bat on Boxwood Drive Thursday morning.
Hopkinsville Police say video evidence showed 29-year-old Gemel Tribble beating the dog with a bat, punching it repetitively, and slamming the dog on the ground for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Police say he admits to the attack but said it was justified.
He was cited to court on charges of second-degree cruelty to animals and torture of a dog or a cat.
