Hyde Steps Down, Lingenfelter Appointed For Cadiz Administrative Officer

Cadiz City Clerk Susan Hyde announced Friday afternoon that she is stepping away from her position — while remaining on board as a key administrator at Cadiz City Hall alongside Shannon Booth.

Hyde said this was her choice, and stems from an increasing personal calendar that requires attention. She’s approaching a foreseeable retirement, and there’s a need for her to be closer to friends and family at this time.

In her place, however, comes the appointment of Jack Lingenfelter — who not only is stepping away from the Cadiz Police Department and more than 20 years in law enforcement, but plans to deepen the city’s clerk position to city administrative officer.

He brought his family to Trigg County and joined the CPD in 2015 — admittedly looking to be in the community on a “three-to-five-year” family plan.

Three became five. Five became 10. He moved from patrol officer to sergeant. From school resource officer to assistant chief. He worked through bachelor’s and master’s degrees in that span, too, and is still seeking more education at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Now, Lingenfelter is looking to grow down a different path, while helping the City of Cadiz in a new, and unique, way by establishing an improved chain of command, working with department heads on budgets and planning, and connecting the community to more opportunity.

More specifically, Lingenfelter said he’s looking forward to training under Hyde over the next few weeks — especially during budget season, where the city’s ledger comes under focus before submission to the state’s Department of Local Government.

Mayor Todd King said the efforts of his last three clerks — Barbie Johnson, Connie Allen and Hyde — have been “great,” and that he’s looking forward to Lingenfelter’s potential leadership and energy in the role.

King confirmed that with these moves, no positions are being lost within the City of Cadiz.

Lingenfelter was interviewed Thursday night by a panel that included Hyde, King, Public Works Director Craig Oakley, and city councilmen and women Bob Noel, Susan Bryant and Brenda Price.

He will be sworn in during a special-called Cadiz City Council meeting planned for 4:30 PM June 17, in which the city’s 2025-26 budget and interment fee ordinance will also have second readings.
