Mark R. Smith, 73, of Hopkinsville, KY passed away at 9:55 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Madisonville, KY.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with Bro. Nick Ashley to officiate the service. Dogwood Funerals & Cremations of Hopkinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Gulfport, MS he was born April 17, 1952, the son of the late Erwin Theodore Smith and Gloria Scarborough Smith. He served his country as a Marine for several years. After an honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Smith began work with the Department of Defense managing logistics. The foundation of his character was built upon his devotion to the Lord. He was an active member and frequent volunteer of both the Flat Lick Presbyterian Church and the Pennyrile Emmaus Organization. His wife of 20 years, Patty, fondly recalls, “If the church doors were open, Mark was there.” Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing and spending time with his cat, Kitty, in his free time.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Wayne Smith and Bridget Smith.
He is survived by his wife: Patty Smith; and his cat: Kitty.
