State Of Emergency Declared For Christian County

Christian County is under a state of emergency after flash flooding that has closed several roads and forced the evacuation of several residents from homes and vehicles.

Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam says the situation in Hopkinsville and Christian County is very serious.

Gilliam says with more rain potentially on the way the state of emergency will help the city and county be prepared to deal with continuing flooding problems.

He adds there several roads in Hopkinsville and Christian County closed due to flooding and high water.

Gilliam adds the emergency declaration will help the county prepare for the long-term recovery.

Hopkinsville Mayor J R Knight says there are several places in the city being impacted by flooding.

Knight adds there have been several rescues by the Hopkinsville Fire Department.

He reminds residents who think they may need assistance getting out of their home due to high water not to wait.
