A Hopkinsville man was charged with attempted murder of a first responder after fighting with law enforcement during a traffic stop on I-169 Wednesday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they stopped a motorcycle driven by 44-year-old Carlo Jones for passing vehicles on the shoulder at Fort Campbell Boulevard and Old Clarksville Pike, and he started fighting with the officer, Johnny Colon, over providing a driver’s license.

Jones reportedly bear-hugged Colon, causing him and Colon to go over the guardrail, and then he started choking Colon to the point of almost losing consciousness.

Colon suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Jones was arrested and charged with menacing, resisting arrest, improper passing, and attempted murder of a first responder.
