Man Charged With Assaulting Police Officer

A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting a police officer after a disturbance on South O’Neal Avenue in Hopkinsville Saturday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to the area for a disturbance involving a man possibly armed with a gun and located 56-year-old Timothy Bingham.

Bingham reportedly walked away when officers tried to talk to him and then jumped at the officer with a closed fist when he was told to stop.

Police say when they tried to put his hands behind his back he started yelling and kicking the officer in the leg.

Bingham was arrested and charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, second-degree disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
