
Friends, family and community members gathered Tuesday night to honor and celebrate Hopkinsville Human Rights Commission Executive Director Bernard Standard who is retiring at the end of the month.
At the retirement reception, Mayor Carter Hendricks and Christian County Fiscal Court Magistrate Magaline Ferguson read a proclamation, which included Standard’s accomplishments over his 30-year career with the commission.

Ferguson added that in October at the Mayor’s Unity Breakfast, Standard was presented the Bernard Standard Award for Excellence, a new award initiated last year. She also highlighted his involvement in other areas of community life.

With Tuesday proclaimed “Bernard Standard Day”, Standard told those on hand it has been an enjoyable journey and voiced his gratitude for the community’s support.
Standard’s last day is January 31st at which time Idalia Luna will take over as the new executive director of the Human Rights Commission.
